I agree with this entirely. I wouldn’t expect to be provided with them personally for the length of my stay as I prefer certain brands & can afford to buy them but they should be available for any of us need them in an emergency. Many of us have been admitted to the hospital without having the available cash or the ability to walk down to the hospital shop to buy them. I run on caffeine cat hair and cuss words shirt, hoodie, tank top. The I run on caffeine Pitbull hair and cuss words shirt is having to sit in a pool of congealed blood. They give out free bandages to stop inpatients bleeding- so why not sanitary towels? If they don’t, there would be a hell of a lot more sheets, mattresses to be washed. Well they hand out free contraception and sex is a choice, so it’s good they can provide free sanitary products.

Having an I run on caffeine Pitbull hair and cuss words shirt is not a choice. Hospitals have shops which stock these items. They should only be given in an emergency really. I’m quite surprised about this as a nurse with then I have always seen a supply of sanitary and incontinence pads available for emergency purposes. But people can have their own choice of products brought in also. I think it’s not only sexist but also oppressive and quite frankly demeaning, that I wasn’t offered tampons in hospital. Why offer free razors when most men have beards and not offer tampons when most women need them. Guys some young teens may not be ready for tampons. If your semi-conscious pads may also be more convenient? Must have been a male who made the I run on caffeine Pitbull hair and cuss words shirt to hand out sanitary items to women. Thank goodness someone overruled that!
